Cornelius has been my tutor for less than a year and I have to say I am so very grateful for finding him! I always wanted to learn Italian and finally I decided to move ahead. I can’t even remember how long it took me to learn English in a somewhat fluent way but Italian? I just went to Corsica for my wedding and nobody spoke English only French and Italian since Corsica used to be Italian. And lemme tell you I was able to carry on a decent conversation and ask for whatever I needed. My brain was working extra hard but I never felt better! I can say after less than a year that Italian has been added to my language repertoire. Thank you Cornelius!

I was preparing to spend the month of March in Italy and found that the tutor I had originally hired here in LA was leaving me feeling intimidated about speaking because of a strict adherence to grammar. I studied with her for 8 months but had reached a plateau. Trying to remember which words in Italian are feminine or masculine is molto difficile and I was losing confidence! I knew Cornelius taught Italian in New York, and asked if he would be willing to offer me Skype lessons to prepare for my trip. He asked what was the most important outcome I wanted to achieve through our lessons together. I told him I wanted to develop more confidence about my ability to handle the day-to-day conversations I would need to survive during my 30 days in Trieste. Our lessons focused upon: how to ask for a cab and what to say to the driver; how to ask for directions (and understand them!); how to order food in a caffe and pay for it and if they only accepted cash, I'd have to ask "c'è un bancomat qua vicino?" We practiced chiacchiere (small talk) and I became quite good in Italy commenting on the weather! My confidence grew - he is a very fun and supportive teacher - and I felt I had some basic conversational skills to add to my ongoing commitment to study Italian. I wish he was here in L.A. New York is lucky to have him!

I have been student of Cornelius for almost a year now and very happy with how things are going. I always wanted to learn another language and Italian seemed like an obvious choice because my partner is Italian. So my goal is to be fluent in Italian. I can say I’ve learned more in less than a year than I expected. I feel like I have a strong grammatical base, I can form sentences, have basic conversation and understand it pretty well. What I like most about Cornelius’s teaching method is that he actually is teaching you how to speak Italian!!! Instead of just making you learn bunch of words and phrases, that you can’t use in an actual conversation - which in the past has been my experience with learning other languages - you learn how to speak Italian the way Italians do!
